In this quick video we are going to introduce five request verbs. If you are just starting, you do not need to know HTTP yet. You need five names, then one job each.

Get. Post. Put. Delete. Patch.

When we finish, you can look at a path and a verb and name the job.

Get retrieves. Get slash api slash blogs brings back every blog in the app.

Post adds something new. You send some information in the body so the app can build a new blog. That request is post slash api slash blogs.

Put updates an existing blog. You send the data in the body of the request. Put slash api slash blogs slash forty two is that job.

Patch updates some fields of that blog. You send only the updated parts in the body. Patch slash api slash blogs slash forty two.

Delete removes an existing blog. Delete slash api slash blogs slash forty two.

Two last notes, then you are ready.

Body data can be sent only through post, put, and patch.

A common junior mistake is slash api slash blog slash I D slash delete. That looks like a delete. It is the wrong way.

To retrieve, delete, or update one existing blog, put a key of that blog in the U R L. A slug or an I D. The verb names the job. The path names which blog.

You leave with one sentence. Same path, different verb, different job.

Before you go, take the quiz and try the practice on this tip. That is how you make it yours.

See you soon in the next tip.

A 90-second tip: name five request verbs, use each on a blog API, then catch the junior delete mistake.
